GUSA Council

GUSA Council Overview

The GUSA Council serves as the central governing body of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA), responsible for setting policies, providing strategic direction, and ensuring the smooth coordination of sports activities across member institutions. The Council plays a key role in fostering collaboration between universities and national sports authorities, promoting the development of sports at both institutional and national levels. Its structure reflects a balanced representation of institutional leaders, sports professionals, students, and governmental agencies to ensure inclusive decision-making.

Composition of the GUSA Council

The GUSA Council is composed of various stakeholders from member institutions and national sports bodies, ensuring a comprehensive and diverse governance structure. From each member institution, the Council includes the Chairperson of the institutional Sports Committee or the Director of the Sports Directorate, providing leadership and direction in athletic programs. It also incorporates the Registrar or a representative to facilitate administrative coordination. All full-time, officially appointed coaches from each institution participate, bringing practical expertise in sports training and management.

Additionally, student representation is ensured through the inclusion of one male and one female student from each member institution, promoting gender equity and student engagement in the governance process. Beyond institutional members, the Council includes a representative from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) and the National Sports Authority (NSA), fostering collaboration between universities and national sports entities. This diverse composition ensures that the Council addresses both institutional priorities and national sports development goals effectively.
